Gameplay

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is an action role-playing game with a third-person perspective. Players control Geralt of Rivia, a monster slayer referred to as a Witcher. Geralt walks runs, rolls, and dodges, and (for the primary time within the series) jumps, climbs, and swims. He features a sort of weapons, including bombs, a crossbow, and two swords (one steel and one silver). The steel sword is employed primarily to kill humans while the silver sword is simpler against creatures and monsters. Players can prolong, switch, and sheathe their swords at will. There are two modes of melee attack; light attacks are fast but weak, and heavy attacks are slow but strong. Players can block and counter enemy attacks with their swords. Swords have limited endurance and need regular repair. additionally, to physical attacks, Geralt has five magical signs at his disposal: Aard, Axii, Igni, Yrden, and Quen. Aard prompts Geralt to unleash a telekinetic blast, Axii confuses enemies, Igni burns them, Yrden slows them down and Quen offers players a short-lived, protective shield. The signs use stamina, and can’t be used indefinitely. Players can use mutagens to extend Geralt’s magic power. They lose health when attacked by enemies, although wearing armor can help reduce health loss. Health is restored with meditation or consumables, like food and potions. Players occasionally control Ciri, Geralt’s adoptive daughter who can teleport short distances. The game has responsive, advanced AI (AI) and dynamic environments.

The day-night cycle influences some monsters; a werewolf becomes powerful during the night of a full-of-the-moon. Players can study their enemies and steel themselves against combat by reading the in-game bestiary. When they kill an enemy, they will loot its corpse for valuables. Geralt’s witcher sense enables players to seek out objects of interest, including items that will be collected or scavenged. Items are stored within the inventory, which may be expanded by purchasing upgrades. Players can sell items to vendors or use them to craft potions and bombs. They can visit blacksmiths to craft new weapons and armorers to craft new armor with what they have gathered. The price of an item and the cost of crafting it depends on a region’s local economy.

The game focuses on narrative and features a dialogue wheel which allows players to settle on the way to answer non-player characters. Geralt must make decisions that change the state of the world and lead to 36 possible endings, affecting the lives of in-game characters. He can have a romantic relationship with some of the game’s female characters by completing certain quests. In addition to the most quests, books offer more information on the game’s world. Players can begin side quests after visiting a town’s noticeboard. These side missions include Witcher Contracts (elaborate missions requiring players to hunt monsters) and game quests, which reward players with top-tier weapons or armor. Players earn experience points by completing missions. When a player earns enough experience, Geralt’s level increases, and therefore the player receives ability points. These points could also be used on four skill trees: combat, signs, alchemy, and general. Combat upgrades enhance Geralt’s attacks and unlock new fighting techniques; signs upgrades enable him to use magic more efficiently, and alchemy upgrades improve crafting abilities. General upgrades have a spread of functions, from raising Geralt’s vitality to increasing crossbow damage. The game’s open-world is split into several regions. Geralt can explore each region on foot or by transportation, like a ship. Roach, his horse, maybe summoned at will. Players can kill enemies with their sword while riding Roach, but an enemy presence may frighten the horse and unseat Geralt. Points of interest may be found on the map, and players receive experience points after completing mini-missions in these regions. Players can discover Places of Power for additional ability points. Other activities include racing, boxing, and card-playing; the card-playing mechanic was later expanded into a standalone game.

Gameplay

Forza Horizon 4 may be a racing computer game set during an open world environment based in a fictionalized Great Britain, with regions that include condensed representations of Edinburgh, the Lake District (including Derwentwater), and therefore the Cotswolds (including Broadway), among others, and features currently over 670 licensed cars. The game features a route creator which enables players to make their own races. The game takes place during a synchronized shared world, compared to the AI-driven ‘drivatars’ from its predecessors, with each server supporting up to 72 players. The game is also playable in offline mode.

Players have the chance to shop for in-game houses that unlock new items, cars, and game-play perks. The game features a dynamic weather system that also depicts the change of seasons. The environment within the world will change counting on the season: for instance, Derwentwater would freeze over in winter and permit players the power to drive on the ice to reach areas of the sports world that might be inaccessible during all the opposite seasons. The seasons are fixed across the game’s servers, meaning that each one player will experience equivalent conditions at an equivalent time. After completing a prologue series of events that introduce players to all or any four seasons, the shared-world seasons will change hebdomadally, with the changes happening on Thursdays at 2:30 PM GMT. The season changes are forewarned to players within the game with a countdown clock, which, when finished, will trigger a brief cinematic cutscene showing the previous season changing to the new one, although the cinematic will be delayed for players who are in the middle of an event or activity.

Returning from Forza Horizon 3, Wheelspins are prize spins with random rewards ranging from cars, Credits (in-game currency), emotes, horns, and clothing. Wheelspins are rewarded from progressing through the story and completing certain seasonal challenges. These can also be bought in the Forzathon shop. Super Wheelspins, enhanced versions of Wheelspins with better prizes, are also given for completing parts of the story and seasonal challenges. Super Wheelspins can also be bought in the #Forzathon Shop. Also returning from the past two games, British drum & bass label Hospital Records provided a soundtrack composed of 20 original tracks from various label artists, as well as an unreleased track by Fred V & Grafix titled “Sunrise”, made for the game’s opening cinematic. The soundtrack album was released on 26 October 2018.

The game features a Dolby Atmos soundtrack.

Owing to licensing issues, vehicles from Mitsubishi Motors and Toyota (including Lexus marque with the exception of some offroad racing and pre-customized trucks and Subaru BRZ) weren’t present in the base game, but updates released in 2019 re-introduced these brands; Mitsubishi returned on 15 January 2019 with the release of the Free Mitsubishi Motors Car Pack DLC. That same day, however, two dancing emotes (“Carlton” and “Floss”) were far away from the sport thanks to lawsuits filed by those dances’ creators against Epic Games for his or her use of the dances as emotes in their game Fortnite Battle Royale. On 19 November 2019, the official Forza Motorsport Twitter account announced that Toyota cars would be returning to the Forza series in the Series 17 update of Forza Horizon 4 on 12 December with the discharge of the 1998 Toyota Supra RZ.

Content and gameplay updates

  • There are two downloadable content expansions for the sport. The first of those, Fortune Island, was released in December 2018. It includes a new map, a range of additional cars, and adds extreme weather conditions to the game, along with a treasure hunting campaign in which players find treasure chests to earn up to ten million Credits. The second, Lego Speed Champions, was announced at E3 2019 and released on 13 June 2019. Similar to the Forza Horizon 3: Hot Wheels expansion, it is based on the Lego brand’s Lego Speed Champions toyline featuring Lego toy versions of real cars, a map “built” with various Lego pieces, and its own separate campaign. It also added a new in-game radio station, Radio Awesome, which is dedicated solely to playing The Lego Movie theme song “Everything Is Awesome” by Tegan and Sara featuring The Lonely Island.
  • The Series 5 update in January introduced the Free DLC Mitsubishi Motors Car Pack. It included 7 new cars and added a replacement 10-mission campaign called Isha’s Taxis.
  • Three car packs have also been released as of 9 April 2019, one including cars from the Bond films, the opposite being a set of Formula Drift cars, and another pack of cars from the Barrett-Jackson Car Pack from Forza Motorsport 7.
  • Every four weeks, at the top of each Spring season, a replacement update for the sport is released introducing new gameplay content, cars, and cosmetic items. The first of those updates, at the top of October 2018, saw the addition of the Route Creator tool and a replacement Horizon Story, British Racing Green.
  • The Series 7 update in March 2019 introduced the Festival Playlist. Players complete daily, weekly, and monthly challenges, including, but not limited to, Seasonal Championships, Playground Games, Ranked Adventure, and Seasonal PR Stunts. While completing these tasks alone earns players rewards, they also contribute to weekly and monthly rewards. 50% and 80% completion of both the Series and the current season rewards drivers with an exclusive car or cosmetic item, usually of the Epic or Legendary rarity. The Festival Playlist has continued to be a neighborhood of every series since its introduction.
  • With the Series 9 update in May 2019, the developers implemented a system to prevent wall riding, the practice of driving into a curved wall on the outside of a corner instead of braking and steering, thus allowing the player to hold more speed through a corner—and high-speed collisions in online multiplayer.
  • The system predicts the occurrence of a collision between two cars with an outsized difference in speed and ghosts the faster vehicle, preventing rammings (both intentional and accidental). The anti-wall riding measures include slowing down a car in touch with the wall for an extended period of your time, counting on speed, and therefore the predicted distance the player would have traveled if they did not hit the wall.
  • In July 2019, as a part of the Series 11 update, a special Horizon Story was added together with BBC’s Top Gear. The missions, narrated by presenter Chris Harris, provided players with rewards including the “Track-tor” (a race-modified tractor featured serial 25 of the show) and therefore the Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6×6.
  • The update also saw the return of class-based Rivals modes from previous games in the series, and the ability to track progress in the Horizon Life menu, as well as several new unlockable cars in the game’s Festival Playlist feature.
  • In December 2019, as a part of the Series 17 update, a replacement 72-player battle royale-style mode called The Eliminator was added to the sport. In this mode, players start by driving around the game world in a fairly slow, weak car such as a 1965 Mini Cooper.
  • As players roam the safe zone, they can acquire car drops that contain more powerful vehicles that randomly appear on the map. Players can also challenge other players to head-to-head races to specific points on the map by pointing their cameras at the other’s vehicle and honking their horns.
  • Players are eliminated from the event if they drive out of the safe zone (which shrinks over time like in other battle royale games) or lose a head-to-head race, where the winner of such has the option to drive the opponent’s car or receive an upgrade. Eventually, when the safe zone shrinks to a certain point, the remaining players will then race to one final point on the map to determine the winner.
  • In April 2020, as part of the Series 21 update, Horizon Promo, a feature previously found in Forza Horizon 2 and 3 where players take in-game photographs of cars using Photo Mode for rewards, made its return to the Forza Horizon series in Horizon 4. In July 2020, the Series 24 update brought a new Photo Challenge feature in the Festival Playlist. This feature would reward players if they took a photo of the specified car in front of the specified location as set out by the Photo Challenge for that week.
  • In July 2020, it was announced that Forza Horizon 4 would be one of a suite of games published by Xbox Game Studios to receive an upgraded version for Xbox Series X through Microsoft’s Smart Delivery system, which will make the game playable on the new console in 4K resolution at 60 fps.

Reception

Forza Horizon 4 received “universal acclaim” for the Xbox One version, while the PC version received “generally favorable” reviews, consistent with review aggregator Metacritic. The Xbox One version is that the highest-rated Forza Horizon title and is tied with Forza Motorsport and Forza Motorsport 3 as the highest-rated entry in the Forza series based on Metacritic scores.

On 18 January 2019, Playground Games announced that that they had reached 7 million registered users after the launch of Fortune Island expansion. In June 2019, prior to the launch of the Lego Speed Champions expansion, Playground Games announced the game had reached 10 million users. In August 2019 it was then announced that the game had now topped the 12 million player milestone

Gameplay

Jade Dynasty is about during a world supported ancient China, where the secrets of immortality and martial-arts perfection were fought over by six human factions: Jadeon, Skysong, Vim, Lupin, Modo, and Incense. Their pursuit of forbidden knowledge brought them into conflict with the demigod tribes of the Athan: Balo, Arden, Rayan, Celan, Forta, and Voida.

Each faction in Jade Dynasty has different skills, strengths, weaknesses and designs of play. Players can become more powerful through 150 levels, high ascended levels and several endgame skill systems (such as the “Chroma” system).

Esper

One of the game’s most unusual features is its Espers. This item allows the player to use a function called “invigorating” to automatically attack enemies, which works similarly to “bot” programs in many MMORPGs. This feature allows the Jade Dynasty players to grind for items and knowledge to get through their computers. Espers can also be set up to automatically use HP and SP remedies as well as powers (called “skills” in Jade Dynasty).

Espers are also powerful items in their own right, providing bonus skills and extra attributes to the owner. These attributes and skills can be increased both with special items or leveling up the Esper through constant use. The Esper’s appearance changes as its level increases. If you ascend your Esper the skill’s appearance will change also because of the Esper itself.

Pets

Players are ready to obtain pets and train them, improving their quality and evolving their appearance. Pets are very useful in-game as they attack enemies and possess skills of their own. Pets have levels just like players, but their power is more affected by the pet’s Grade stat. A pet will level up either by fighting alongside its master or through items like Kylin or Miradrake Orbs, and its grade is often improved through pet jades. These are often obtained through quests or by trading in Celebean items, available through the Marketplace.

All pets have a sign of the zodiac stat, which determines the attacks they need access to. A pet workshop function exists to craft training materials or gear for pets.

The pet’s appearance can radically change in grades 12 and 18 using special mushroom items. The appearance change is only aesthetic – it doesn’t affect the pet’s skills or attributes. Pets also chat with the player, with the mood of the pet determining what it says.

Grade 20 pets can also be ascended. Their appearance will drastically change, and players are also able to grade them up to grade 30. When pets reach ascension, players are able to summon them instantly and are also able to fly.

Fast Travel

  • Jade Dynasty features several methods for traveling quickly, including Skylords, Skyblades, charms, and mounts.
  • Skylords allow players to teleport between towns for a small fee, but players can only teleport to areas when their level is high enough.
  • Skyblades allow players to fly through the air, though they require energy items to use. Permanent skyblades are often obtained from the marketplace and from the Wind Fairy NPC within the Sunstream map. A temporary Skyblade is often obtained by completing a weekly quest from the Wind Fairy. Skyblades also have levels and grades which will increase with use, increasing their speed. The downside is that you cannot fight on Skyblades.
  • Mounts allow a player to travel on the ground faster than they could run, though characters in the Arden faction can outrun most mounts in their fox transformation, which increases resistance and speed. Permanent mounts can be bought from the marketplace and temporary mounts can be won in the Kunlun Wonderland Fair zone.
  • Portal charms and portal scrolls respectively teleport the player to a wanted location and to the actual map’s Town (for example if you’re in Sunstream and use a portal scroll, you will be teleported to Sunstream City). However, portal charms are often purchased from the marketplace or from other players with Jade Dynasty’s trading system, while portal scrolls are free and are given to the player each time he uses a Treasure Chest.

Classes

As in most fantasy MMORPGs, the games’ different classes, called factions, follow some common archetypes. Their names are, however, very original, as they are based on the Chinese novel Zhu Xian’s story. There are three races in Jade Dynasty: the Humans, the Athans, and therefore the Etherkins. The Humans and the Athans races each have six classes in total, with the individual class locked onto that race. The Etherkins currently has five classes. These classes are as follows.

Jadeon

The Jadeon is one of the three Good-aligned human factions and is the spell-sword mage of the game. They are a class that values honor.

They are ranged, possessing very powerful ranged and Area of Effect (AoE) attacks that damage many enemies around a specific point, but have low health and defense stats (this can be compensated with their wide range of protective spells, however). They use ice/lightning style spells mixed with martial arts as their combat skills. They use robes, alongside a sword as their equipment.

Skysong

The Skysong is the first supports in Jade Dynasty. They are a class that values peace.

The Skysong is very valuable in group combat thanks to their ability to cast skills that empower their allies and inflict sleeping effects on their enemies. They have low defense and attack power, but their healing abilities make them very resilient. With themes based around being arcane monks, they have an array of skills that would bless their allies, with some they may use from afar that would heal them and deal considerable damage to the enemy. Skysongs even have area-of-effect spells but not many particularly strong ones. They use robes as their armor, and staff as their weapons.

Tiers

  • Each faction has 5 Tiers of skills, each unlocked by completing a quest chain at certain milestone levels. Humans begin as non-class Initiates, so Tier 1 begins for them at Level 15, while the Athan and Etherkin start Tier 1 at Level 1.
  • Each faction has its own faction-specific Tier 1 and 2 quests chains, but Tier 3, 4, and 5 quests are the same for all classes.
  • Each Tier contains a standardized amount of skills: nine skills for Tiers 1 – 4, and four skills for the Human Initiate tier and Tier 5. To level up skills in higher tiers, lower-level tiers need a certain amount of skill points invested in them. There are not enough skill points to attain all skills at maximum levels, so players choose a specific build to use.
  • This system makes possible several different builds in the same faction, such as Skysongs being able to focus on either healing or fighting. Some players attempt to do both, but this usually results in a character that is a “jack of all trades, but master of none”, so the usual builds focus on one particular strength.

Refinery

Refinery improves the quality of a weapon or a piece of defensive gear, increasing the stat bonuses they grant and is an important process of the game. Players can use talismans and, sometimes, an auxiliary item to improve or guarantee the success of a refinery.

Refinery improves the quality of the item, adding attributes to it and giving it a glow of different colors depending on the level of the refinery; e.g., a +9 armor grants a high bonus to Defense and glows green. Refined items are invaluable in the endgame, both for PvP and PvE. Refining has a chance to succeed and increase the refinery level, but if it fails, the gear will be destroyed. This may be avoided by using items that either enhance the chances of success, prevent items from breaking, or even guarantee success. The following items directly affect the refinery process:

1. The Star Charm: Increases the chance of success by 15%. Whether this is multiplicative or additive remains to be confirmed.

2. The Serenity Jade: Prevents the item from breaking. Instead, should the refinery process fail, the refine level will be reduced by 1. If your item was +5 and the refinery process fails serenity jade, your item will be returned to you at +4, and both the serenity jade and refinery talisman are consumed.

3. Sigils: Guarantees success of refining your item up to a certain value. There are tiers of Sigils that can increase the maximum refinery value, with Dragon Sigils the highest obtainable by exchanging lower-level sigils, and Kirin Sigils the highest-level sigils overall.

Star Charms, Serenity Jades, and Bronze Sigils can be purchased in the marketplace.

The Marketplace

The Marketplace is a cash shop where Jaden can be exchanged for some items. Jaden can currently be purchased for US$1 per 1 Jaden. Jaden can also be purchased from other players for in-game gold via a banker function. The in-game gold to Jaden ratio is steadily rising. Unlike some games, Jade Dynasty can be played without using the Marketplace, but you will be at a disadvantage relative to cash shop players.

TEAM FORTRESS 2

Team Fortress 2 is a multiplayer first-person shooter computer game developed and published by Valve. It is the sequel to the 1996 Team Fortress mod for Quake and its 1999 remake, Team Fortress Classic.
It was released in October 2007 as part of The Orange Box video game bundle for Microsoft Windows and the Xbox 360. A PlayStation 3 version followed in December 2007 when The Orange Box was ported to the system.
Later in development, the game was released as a standalone title for Windows in April 2008 and was updated to support Mac OS X in June 2010 and Linux in February 2013. It is distributed online through Valve’s digital retailer Steam, with Electronic Arts handling all physical and console ports of the sport.
The player can join one among two teams, RED or BLU, and choose one among 9 character classes to battle in-game modes like capture the flag and king of the hill. Development of the sport was led by John Cook and Robin Walker, the developers of the first Team Fortress mod.
Team Fortress 2 was first announced in 1998 under the name Team Fortress 2: Brotherhood of Arms. Initially, the sport had more realistic, militaristic visuals and gameplay, but this changed over the protracted nine-year development.
After Valve released no information for 6 years, Team Fortress 2 regularly featured in Wired News’ annual vaporware list among other ignominies.
The finished Team Fortress 2 has cartoon-like visuals influenced by the art of J. C. Leyendecker, Dean Cornwell, and Norman Rockwell, and uses Valve’s Source game engine.

The most highly-rated free game of all time!
One of the foremost popular online action games of all time, Team Fortress 2 delivers constant free updates, new game modes, maps, equipment, and, most significantly, hats. Nine distinct classes provide a broad range of tactical abilities and personalities and lend themselves to a spread of player skills.

There are many weapons, hats, and more to gather, craft, buy, and trade. Tweak your favorite class to fit your gameplay style and private taste. You don’t get to pay to win, virtually all of the things within the Mann Co. Store can also be found in-game.
Gameplay and other details
Team Fortress 2 (TF2) by Valve Software is a multiplayer first-person shooter (FPS) similar to Halo. It also represents a video game that was once sold without any microtransactions became a free platform that is constantly updated with new content, some created by the users themselves.
When the game came out in Fall 2007 it was considered a great game, but it was a different one. In this game, you can play as a variety of characters such as the (faux-Australian) Sniper or the (faux-Bostonian) Scout. Each character had an unchangeable “loadout” with a primary weapon, a secondary weapon, and a melee weapon. Finally, you were put into either the Red Team or the Blue Team, and your team’s goal was usually to kill as many members of the opposing team as possible. Most of that has changed in the last eight years.

At some point in 2008, Valve used network effects to make more value by adding more content. It updates the sport to take care of a “balance” between the characters (that is, confirm nobody character was too strong or weak vis-à-vis the opposite characters), but it also constantly adds more content.
They are constantly adding more items to each character’s arsenal; none of them are tied to a single loadout. For instance, the Pyro can swap out its shotgun for a flare gun that could burn people from afar. Over time Valve created (and creates) sort of new updates, from new modes like Mann vs. Machine to cosmetic hats that help personalize each character. The updates create direct network effects by keeping the game’s current players engaged and enticing new ones also.
These changes allowed Valve to make some changes. It put in a “trade” mechanic so that people can trade items and captured monetary value from its users by creating a store where people can buy items. While some of the items required to play parts of the game have to be bought (such as the Tour of Duty tickets), most of them can still be found, created, or traded for within the game, and none of them are needed to play the vast majority of the game. The game’s economy became so big that Vale hired future Greek finance minister Yanis Varoufakis to study it (you can see some of his blog posts here). Eventually, Valve realized it made so much money from its game’s store that it apparently realized it would make more money by lowering the barrier to entry. To do that, it made the game free, so that price would not be an issue, and made the game available on Mac and Linux.

Valve enables indirect network effects by encouraging its players to create new items, such as the Pain Train- a piece of wood with a big nail in it- and the “Bushi-dou” jacket In return for putting these ideas in the game, Valve gives a portion of the money it makes from the items to the users who make what it considers to be great items. This encourages people to come up with more ideas and contribute to TF2.
There also are some indirect network effects live. By allowing people to make their own items and submit them for permission to be bought with royalties for themselves the sport creates an indirect network effect where people contribute more hats and weapons ideas that grows the ecosystem of the sport. a number of them created servers with their own rules, which suggests a number of them have found their own ways to play with the sport (such as twiddling with the game’s code to play a version where every player features a random loadout) and find money to buy the servers (whether it’s through donations or another method). Taken together, Team Fortress 2 is now a kind of “platform” where the users can make their own contributions that help build the platform also as entice more people into joining the sport years after the game’s release.

This game isn’t wholly unique. The characters’ ability to wear different, cosmetic hats resembles that of online role-playing games like Everquest. However, the game’s resilience is striking; most online games have dipped, but the sport still hovers between having a population of about 30,000 people to about 60,000 people on a monthly basis. Valve remains to add new items and modes to the sport, whereas it could have just made new games. it’s going to not have as many consistent players as World of Warcraft had subscribers in Q2 2015 (5.6m), but it’s still high but most games aren’t World of Warcraft; most online games have their servers taken down after a couple of years, never mind have new content added quite a couple of years after launch. because of Valve’s commitment to constantly improving the sport and taking in user feedback, the sport remains to make Valve money eight years later and it’s still going strong.

Release
The game was released on October 10, 2007, both as a standalone product via Steam and at retail stores as a part of The Orange Box compilation pack, priced at each gaming platform’s recommended retail price. The Orange Box also contains Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode One, Half-Life 2: Episode Two, and Portal. Valve offered The Orange Box at a one-tenth discount for those that pre-purchased it via Steam before the October 10 release, also because of the opportunity to participate within the trial.
Critics
Team Fortress 2 received critical approval for its art direction, gameplay, humor, and use of character during a multiplayer-only game. Valve continues to release new content within the sort of submissions made through the Steam Workshop. In June 2011, it became free-to-play, supported by microtransactions for in-game cosmetics. A ‘drop system’ was also added and refined, allowing free-to-play users to periodically receive equipment and items by use of a random number generator. Though the sport had an unofficial competitive scene for several years, both support for official competitive play through ranked matchmaking and an overhauled casual experience was added in July 2016.

DYING LIGHT

Gameplay

VRChat’s gameplay is analogous thereto of games like Second Life and Habbo Hotel. Players can create their own instanced worlds during which they will interact with one another through virtual avatars. A software development kit released alongside the sport gives players the power to make or import character models from various franchises and adopt them as their personas. Player models are capable of supporting “audio lip synchronization, eye tracking and blinking, and complete range of motion. It also includes several minigames during which players can “Capture the Flag, rob a bank in Steel ‘n’ Gold, and lob digital discs at one another during a match of Battle Discs.”

Although the sport is known as “VRChat”, it’s not necessary to possess VR equipment to play the sport. The game also offers a desktop version for those that do not have VR headsets, but it’s limitations like the lack to freely move an avatar’s limbs, as well as certain content which requires the user make use of both hands, such as a shooting game where the player must use their other hand to reload a weapon while holding it with their primary hand. Desktop Mode users are restricted to one hand for interaction but can make use of a windows compatible game-pad for further interaction. As the majority of content in VR chat is user-driven, making “accessible” content cross-platform is up to the designer.

Hardware support

VRChat has extensive support for an outsized number of VR headsets and accessories, like the Oculus Rift DK1, DK2, CV1, and S headset variants running on Microsoft Windows with or without the Oculus Home launcher, as well as the Android-based Oculus Quest standalone VR platform. Unique to VRChat, users on the Android platform can fully interact with users on the PC platform, provided the player-created avatar is uploaded and optimized for the search. Quest users can view the PC user’s avatars in their “full-body” configurations, and physical movement is accurately synced between clients.

Additionally, all VR hardware that’s compatible with the SteamVR/OpenVR platform is supported to varying degrees. This includes (but is not limited to) the HTC Vive and Vive Pro, as well as the more recent Valve Index as of June 5, 2019. Depending on the headset used, models for the respective controllers will appear while the player is navigating the in-game menu. Controllers which support finger positional trackings such as the Valve Index Controllers and the more limited “cap-sense” of the Oculus Controllers allow users to make natural hand gestures such as “fist” or “victory”, which may then be further customized to trigger linked animations, like a corresponding countenance.

The game allows additional add-on support for hip and feet tracking, among its user base commonly mentioned as “full-body” tracking. Humanoid movement is calculated through unity inverse kinematics. Officially, only the HTC computer game System Tracker, better referred to as the “Vive Tracker Puck” by many, allows this support. Users must purchase one or three tracking “pucks” (one placed ahead of the hips, one on each foot). Users can have “hips only” for extra tracking fidelity without the necessity for left and right foot tracking. Unofficially, players have made “frankenstein” VR setups like employing a PlayStation VR headset to trace the top, Xbox’s Kinect for the hips and feet, and Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons for the hands (alternatively, PlayStation Move controllers) to simulate the full-body tracking the HTC Vive supports, with SteamVR facilitating the combination through custom OpenVR drivers.

Community

The game’s popularity has been attributed to use by YouTubers and Twitch streamers. VRChat has spawned media like a weekly newspaper in its forums, and talk shows and podcasts dedicated to a discussion of the sport.

Controversy

VRChat has come under fire several times due to NSFW activities within the game. With large communities built around the idea of an 18+ atmosphere, VRChat has often been criticized for a lack of aged protection for and against younger users of the sport. As well, online child predators have become a problem within many of the communities, and continue to be an ever-present danger that is shared with much of the Internet.

In popular culture

Ugandan Knuckles

VRChat gave rise to a meme known as “Ugandan Knuckles”, in which players use in-game models of Knuckles the Echidna from the Sonic the Hedgehog series while repeating the catchphrase “Do you know the way?” during a mock African accent. The players’ model and mannerisms originated during a review by YouTuber Gregzilla and Forsen’s Twitch stream respectively, additionally to lines from the Ugandan movie Who Killed Captain Alex? This has generated controversy from many sources; Polygon’s Julia Alexander labeled it “blatantly racist” and a “problematic meme”, comparing it to Habbo Hotel raids, and Jay Hathaway of The Daily Dot called it a “racist caricature”. The creator of the 3D model utilized in the meme expressed regret for having made it, and urged players that they “do not use this to bug the users of VRChat.” In response, the developers of the game published an open letter on Medium, stating that they were developing “new systems to allow the community to better self-moderate” and asking users to use the built-in muting features.
